Tryouts/Parent Meeting

Hello everyone!  The coaches are very excited about the talent they are seeing in our children.  They are also very excited about the tryouts scheduled for Thursday afternoon beginning at  5pm.  It is not certain how long this process will take, but we wanted you to be prepared.  After the tryouts are completed, the coaches will put a list of varsity, competition, and junior high on the gym door.  If your child's number is on one of these three lists please plan to go into the gym with your child to try on uniforms, be fitted for a warm up outfit and gain some information about the upcoming seasons.  Just so everyone is aware, the warm-ups will be the same for all three squads so your child can continue to use them as they progress through their cheerleading career. ( a portion of this cost will be your responsibility, and a portion will be absorbed through the booster club)  Since we are uncertain on how long the try out process and judging will take please be prepared to be part of the meeting which may not being until 7:30 or 8:00. Again we are very excited to begin the season and look forward to having all of you parents be part of this journey. Cheer booster meeting dates and times will be further discussed at the meeting tomorrow.  Thanks for your understanding and patients as we work through this together.  See you tomorrow.

INFORMATION FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT MAKE TRYOUTS (JULY 27th-30th)

Hello Varsity & Junior High Cheerleading Parents/Guardians:

Tim and I have been on vacation all week so I apologize if I took a little longer to respond to your texts/calls. I believe I answered all of the questions from the week but if I did not, please send me another text/call (I still have vacation brain!)

As of now, I have four students who cannot attend tryouts the whole week of July 27th (Rank, Hoover, Eccleston, Wyatt). If your child cannot make tryouts the week of the 27th, please let me know. If your child is going to miss one day of tryout practices, no big deal, as long as they do not miss the 30th (judging). For those who CANNOT make it that week, Tim and I have decided to hold practices since WE were the ones who moved the tryout dates. Since there are so few students who will be missing tryouts, we have decided to have two definite practices and a third will be tentative.

MAKEUP TRYOUT DATES:

TUESDAY JULY 21st from 5pm-7pm at the HS GYM

WEDNESDAY JULY 22nd from 5pm-7pm at the HS GYM

?tentative practice Thursday July 23rd from 5pm-7pm

?A video of the dance/cheers/chants will still be provided for the cheerleaders for home practice, as they are learned (e.g. dance will be taught one day and a video of the dance will be provided for the cheerleaders that day VIA personal email). We ask that the make-up cheerleaders do not share the video with the ones who will be learning it the following week so that all girls/boys are on the same "playing field". Videos will be distributed the following week as well, again, as the week goes on.

?Tim and I will be video taping the students and showing it to the panel of judges next week so that all are judged fairly.

Again, if you have any questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to call/text me.

We look forward to meeting you and your child! We are excited to see you at tryouts!

VIDEO SUBMISSION TRYOUTS

Good morning,

We wanted to clarify some information regarding the video submissions. Since we did change the tryout dates, we will be holding some practices the week before for the girls/boys who cannot make the week of the 27th. We are waiting to hear back from those who cannot make it with their vacation dates so that we can choose days that most of the "video" girls can make. With that being said, if your child cannot make tryouts during the week of the 27th, please send us an email with the dates you will be gone ASAP so we can put together a schedule for the videos.

Thank you,

TIm & Destiny

CHEERLEADING TRYOUTS 2015-2016

Hello All,

We understand that no matter when we hold tryouts, some students will miss due to vacations and other plans. At the meeting, it came to our attention that the week of July 20th would not work for MANY students due to the field hockey camp at Bucknell.

After speaking with the judges, we have decided to move tryouts to the following week:

PRACTICE FOR TRYOUTS WILL BE HELD

JULY 27th, 28th, 29th, FROM 5:00-7:00pm

at the HIGH SCHOOL GYM

FORMAL TRYOUTS IN FRONT OF THE PANEL OF JUDGES WILL BE HELD

THURSDAY JULY 30th FROM 5:00-7:00

at the HIGH SCHOOL GYM.

*For the families who will be away during these dates, please send me your email and the dates you will be on vacation (so we can figure out a time to record the tryout video). At that point, ideally, we would like to send the video 3 days prior to coming in for the formal recording (to keep it as fair as possible).

SCORING: Tim strongly believes that tumbling should still be part of the scoring process. We have decided to do what we had stated at the meeting-- tumbling will only be worth 5 points instead of 10. With that being said, during the three practices that we have before tryouts, we do plan on teaching each student who cannot tumble, the mechanics of a cartwheel. We understand that tumbling was not something that was taught in the past so we want to give them an opportunity to learn a skill before tryouts. Also, we will stay after practice each night for an hour for those who wish to improve their tumbling skills (this is completely optional).

The total scoring will be:

CHEER- 10 points

DANCE- 10 points

PROJECTION- 10 points

JUMPS- 10 points

TUMBLING- 5 points

TOTAL: 45 points

We know that tryouts are a stressful time not only for your child but for you as well. We want to relieve as much of that stress as possible and are planning to spend as much time with each individual student as we can during the 3 practices. As I was scanning through some tryout information online, I came across this great article--

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kari-kubiszyn-kampakis/lessons-i-learned-from-my-daughters-cheerleading-tryouts_b_6928114.html.

We do not have children ourselves so encouragement from us does not mean as much as hearing it from another parent!

Please continue to send questions and comments our way! Again, our contact information is:

Destiny: email—dkunkel@wrsd.org  phone—(412)-983-8826

Tim: email-- tim.e.kunkel@gmail.com phone (610)-509-9646

Thank you and have a SAFE & WONDERFUL holiday weekend!

Meeting 6/29/2015

Hello All,

We just wanted to thank everyone who was able to come to the meeting tonight! We know change is difficult and we truly do value and appreciate all of the input that was given tonight!

For those who were unable to attend the meeting, I have attached a document with the information discussed at the meeting.

In regards to changing the tryout dates: One of the judges is currently on vacation and said she will get back to me by the end of the week. Once I have an answer from the judges, I will send out another email blast ASAP. At that time, we will need a list of students who will not be able to attend tryouts and I will get the tryout video out to you ASAP.

I was also asked a question at the end about the activity fee--- if your child does not make the team, your activity fee will absolutely be refunded!

Please do not hesitate to call or email with more questions or concerns!

Thank you again,

Tim & Destiny

Cheer Boosters Meeting Minutes 2/11/15

WR Cheer Boosters

February 11, 2015

The meeting was called to order by President Sonya Berger at 6:07 pm.  There were 12 members present.

The reading of the January 7th meeting were reviewed and approved first by Dan Walz, second by Barb Ikler.  All in favor.

The reading of the treasures report was presented by treasure Terry Moore.  As of this date the balance is
$8,889.35.  Terry then discussed how there are some outstanding deposits and withdraws that need to be recorded. The report was approved first by Barb Ikler, second by Lisa Masser.  All in favor.

OLD BUSINESS
Competition was further discussed and how it was a huge success.  We compared how we did financially this year doing the competition alone and splitting it with Williamsport, and we came out about the same with a profit this year of about $3,400 and when we split it we profited about $3,600.

We had a unanimous vote to accept Dan Walz as the new secretary for the remainder of the 2014-2015 season and the 2015-2016 season.

We talked about some outstanding bills from GTM, and these are being squared away.  The Varsity Squad received two liners this year and they will be asked to return the blue ones and they will be credited for the return.

NEW BUSINESS
The end of the year banquet was discussed and the date is set for April 12th at 3:00pm at the Watson Inn.
The club voted on meals that will be served and it was decided we will have a choice between Beef with Gravy, and Filled Chicken Breast. The sides will be roasted potatoes and vegetable medley.  We will purchase a decorated cake and will have ice cream with chocolate sauce for dessert.  The club will pay for the cheerleaders’ meals and the families will be asked to pay for themselves.  A form will be sent home with the cheerleaders at practice regarding the banquet.

We then discussed the upcoming competitions and how the squads are planning to attend the Lewistown one on February 21st, Marti Gra on March 1st and possibly Williamsport on March 22nd.  Further information on the details for Lewistown will be sent home with the cheerleaders next week, and details on Marti Gra and Williamsport will be out soon.

The next meeting is set for March 25th at 6pm in the Café .

The meeting was adjourned at 7:40pm.  First by Amy Walz, second by Pam Hemphill. All in favor.

Addendum to August 18th Meeting Minutes

It was stated in the August 18th meeting minutes the following: " 5. Fundraisers - Pink Out Shirts - boosters held a vote to designate what percentage of fundraiser will go to American Cancer Society. After vote was held it was decided that 50% of monies raised will go to the cancer society and 50% will stay with the boosters - picture of design for pink out shirts was passed around for approval."

             Clarification:

50% of the proceeds from the Pink Out T-shirts will go to the Susan G Komen Foundation, not the American Cancer Society. This has been the tradition for all years passed.

If anyone has any questions, please contact the booster club officers.

Thank you!
